Hello and welcome to This Week in Ladies!
Here's what we've got on tap for you this week:
- Bitch, Please
Listeners Stephan and John wrote in to comment on episodes #57 and #60, respectively. Tune in to find out who we omitted in our episode on lady directors and why the current Queen of England is Elizabeth II when her mother was also an Elizabeth, but not Elizabeth I.
- This Week in Comics
I Hate Fairyland #1, New Avengers #1, Paper Girls #1, Lumberjanes: Beyond Bay Leaf, We Stand on Guard #4, Sex Criminals #13, Ms. Marvel #19 | Very mixed bag this week, including new number ones from Becca's favorite comics artist (I Hate Fairyland, Skottie Young) and her favorite comics writer (Paper Girls, Brian K. Vaughan), which were her least and most favorite comics of the week, respectively. Lumberjane Ripley encounters The Last Unicorn/Ghost Pony; Sex Criminals introduces a new character and an old standard of sexual attractiveness; and Ms. Marvel's pre-Secret Wars-run goes out on a high note including smart parents, confessions of love, and dance parties. What's not to love?
- The Martian
Like millions of other people we read (and Allison saw) and loved The Martian by Andy Weir. And boy do we have a lot to say about it. If you're not already sick of The Martian, check out our discussion of space cowboys, disco, Dear Kitten, math in space, and more. Also, if you like stories about astronauts lost in space, do check out '80s classic Space Camp, starring Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix back when he still went by his first name, "Leaf."
- This Week in Ladies Recommends
A: Real Murder by Charlaine Harris
B: Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales: One Dead Spy by Nathan Hale
Thanks for listening!
