Hello and welcome to This Week in Ladies!
Here's what we've got on tap for you this week:
- This Week in Comics
X-Men #3, Captain Marvel #14 (The Enemy Within #5), and the Television Critics Association press tour? | So, X-Men keeps happening. Comic book events are confusing (more on that next week), but the five-book "Enemy Within" is skillfully handled, unsurprisingly, by Kelly Sue DeConnick. The end of the series, in particular, really rewards long-time readers and fans of the Avengers movie. A panel of white dudes who write comics were at TCA promoting the PBS documentary Superheroes: The Never-Ending Battle and Alyssa Rosenberg of ThinkProgress called them on their bullshit.
- This Week in Teen Wolf
"The Girl Who Knew Too Much" and "The Overlooked" | We have questions. Notably: When are we getting an "Argent & Lahey, Private Eyes" spin-off? Also: How we will cope with never knowing where Cora's been for the last six years when Jeff Davis inevitably fails to tell us? (Although, we may have the answer to this one.) And finally: Is there anyone with whom Crystal Reed does not have chemistry?
Current Death Tally:
No update! Congratulations, Beacon Hills, nobody died in you for two weeks running!
- Flawed Media
No, it's not another segment about Teen Wolf. We discuss media that we still like, despite instances of sexism, racism, or other no-good-ism, and media that we once loved but is now ruined by our awareness of its gross and rampant -ism. Some things we still like include rap music (here's @rare_basement's tweet Becca mentions), country music, and Nancy Drew, about whom both Slate and Salon have thoughts. Warning: Becca's going to try to ruin Beauty and the Beast for you.
- This Week in Shit You Should Be Listening To
"Lucky" by Kat Edmonson
Please do read Kat's love letter to Austin on The Huffington Post. We're a little biased, but we have to agree that Austin is pretty great.
Thanks for listening!
