Episode 13: Meow-Meow in Midgard

Hello and welcome to This Week in Ladies! Our episode title this week is from this Kat Dennings gem from Thor.

Here's what we've got on tap for you this week:

  • This Week in Comics
Captain Marvel #17 and a new Ms. Marvel coming in 2014! | This is our last Captain Marvel until Spring 2014 and it goes out with a bang. A feelings bang. Also, we can hardly contain our excitement for the new Ms. Marvel book coming in 2014, which will feature Muslim-American teenager Kamala Khan. The team behind the series includes TWiL favorite Jamie McKelvie, who designed the new Ms. Marvel costume, writer and Boston University grad G. Willow Wilson, and Hawkeye editors Sana Amanat and Steve Wacker. For more information, check out the coverage from The New York Times, TIME, and Huff Post Books. While we focus on our excitement about this project, there have been some really ugly reactions to this news, which Stephen Colbert lampoons here and Rye Silverman of Huff Post responds to here.
  • This Week in Television
One-season wonders! We talk about the late, lamented television shows we lost much too soon. Becca's still not over the cancellation of The Class starring Lizzie Caplan, a Friends-esque sitcom from 2006. Allison highly recommends kooky cult favorites Clone High and Wonderfalls, the latter being one of the many fan favorites to last less than a season on FOX. Clone High and Wonderfalls are both available on DVD and you can catch up with The Class on Amazon Instant Video. What one-season wonders have left you wanting more?
  • Thor: The Dark World
Becca insists on calling it Loki 2: The Return of Darcy, but no matter who your favorite Asgardian is, this movie's got something for you! We talk about Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba and the female gaze; badass women warriors (psst to the casting director of The Expendabelles: call Renee Russo); the overall cohesion of the MCU; the criminal underuse of Christopher Eccleston; and SO MUCH MORE. We also consider the question, "Is Thor [2] a feminist movie?" Just for funzies: check out this great Sporcle quiz, Bard of Thunder (Who said it? Thor or Shakespeare?).
