Hello and welcome to This Week in Ladies! Our episode title this week comes from this accurate depiction of Avengers fandom by Avibroso.
Here's what we've got on tap for you this week:
- This Week in Comics
Hawkeye #13 and Avengers Assemble #20 | Hawkeye returns at long last! And the art is absolutely beautiful. Both of this week's comics give us a lot to think about in regard to how everyday people can be heroes and how heroes can be pretty fucked up in their everyday lives. (This Captain Awkward post has a Marilyn Hacker poem about Clint and the women in his life.) We also talk about gender dynamics in comics and the balance between saving the world and saving the individual. What is collateral damage and how much is okay? We don't have the answer, but at least Marvel acknowledges the question. (Here, btw, is the Tumblr post by Saathi1013 referenced by Becca.)
- This Week in TV
Our feature topic got us thinking about the television we fangirl for: Roswell, Firefly and Grey's Anatomy for Becca and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Stargate Atlantis and The Office for Allison.
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Fangirl falls a little short for us as a depiction of the fan experience, but our expectations were, admittedly, a little high. We do, however, think this book goes above and beyond as a poignant family drama, sweet romance, and hilarious coming-of-age story. Want to win your own copy of Fangirl*? Follow us on Twitter @TWiLPodcast and tweet about the show to your friends! We'll announce the winner on Episode 13!
- This Week in Shit You Should be Listening To
"Cello Girl" by Caitlin Cary (scroll down)
And check out Agatha's great photography/music/North Carolina love blog brand new kind of.
- And if you're in Austin, check out Forever Fest! We can't wait.
Thanks for listening!
